Henri Guedon - Karma [LP]

A really brilliant album from percussionist Henri Guedon – an artist with Caribbean roots, but a sound that really seems to transcend all boundaries – as he mixes his own instrumentation with a great blend of keyboards, organ, piano, and plenty more percussion – in styles that shift nicely from track to track, and echo some of the strongest 70s moments in New York salsa, Brazilian jazz, and West African funk! Henri sings on most numbers too – with this raspy version of French that's perfect for the groove – and the whole album's a stunning through and through, with tracks that include "Karma", "An Ti Fi", "Pa Civilize Moin", "Eti Yo", "Fin De Monde", "Canaval Nou", and "Racine".
